The Heritage Dancers have been performing together for twenty-one years, including all but one California State Square Dance Convention. It all began with the vision of director, Ruth Walker, who wanted more people to be informed of the interesting history of our beloved square dance activity. Extensive research has gone into what they present to audiences today. Their repertoire includes ten different dances performed in period costuming, using authentic music and choreography.
When they perform, they take their audiences on a journey through time for a quick glimpse of America’s history through dance, demonstrating how America’s own folk dance - square dancing – evolved into what it has become today. They have performed in many different states as well as in Europe. The dancers come from all over San Diego and Riverside counties and practice weekly in Poway and San Diego. They welcome visitors to their practices and their membership is open to qualified dancers.
